About

Videri Chocolate Factory

Tucked into downtown Raleigh’s historic Warehouse District, Videri Chocolate Factory is one of the city’s most beloved makers, a place where you can watch chocolate being crafted from raw cacao bean to finished bar and then taste it just steps from the machines. Part factory, part shop, and part café, Videri offers a rare, hands-on look at how great chocolate is made, all under one roof at 327 W. Davie Street.

A Bean-to-Bar Landmark in the Warehouse District

Founded in December 2011 by Sam Ratto and Starr Sink, Videri helped put Raleigh on the map for craft chocolate. The independent company set up shop inside a converted warehouse near the old Raleigh Depot, an airy brick-and-timber space that doubles as a working production floor and an inviting retail counter. Over the years it has grown into a downtown institution, drawing locals and visitors who come as much for the experience as for the chocolate itself.

How the Chocolate Is Made

Videri is a true bean-to-bar operation, meaning it controls every step of the process in-house. Cacao beans are sourced from growers around the world, then roasted, cracked, winnowed, ground, and conched on site before being molded into bars and confections. The open layout lets guests see the roasters, melangers, and tempering equipment at work, and the aroma of roasting cacao often drifts through the neighborhood. This start-to-finish approach gives Videri’s chocolate its nuanced, complex flavor, and it earned the company a national Good Food Award for a high-percentage single-origin bar. Because everything is done by hand in small batches, no two seasons are exactly alike, and the team is always experimenting with new origins and limited-run flavors.

The Shop and Café

At the front of the factory, a bright retail space invites you to browse and sample. The chocolate counter is stocked with bars, bonbons, seasonal confections, cocoa nibs, and gift bundles, and staff are happy to walk you through the lineup. Alongside it, an in-house coffee counter run in partnership with Black & White Coffee serves espresso drinks, mochas, and Videri’s own rich sipping chocolate. With indoor seating and an outdoor patio, it is an easy spot to linger over a warm drink or plan a treat to take home.

Single-Origin Bars and Signature Flavors

Videri’s bars range from approachable everyday favorites to adventurous single-origin releases. Signature options include the 70% Sea Salt Bar, Almond Sea Salt, and Coffee Crunch, along with dark milk varieties that balance smoothness and depth. For those who want to taste the difference terroir makes, single-origin bars highlight cacao from places such as Colombia, Tanzania, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, and Ecuador, including intense 90% and 100% expressions. Bundle boxes make it easy to sample several at once or put together a gift.

Visiting Videri

Videri is open seven days a week, with the chocolate shop running Monday through Thursday from 9am to 6pm, Friday and Saturday from 9am to 9pm, and Sunday from 11am to 5pm. The adjacent coffee counter opens earlier on weekday mornings. Admission to the self-guided factory tour is free, making it a family-friendly stop that pairs well with a stroll through the Warehouse District. Its central location, at 327 W. Davie Street near Union Station, keeps it within easy reach of downtown hotels, museums, and restaurants.

Why Videri Stands Out

In a food scene full of talented independents, Videri stands out for its transparency and craft. Few places let you smell the roast, watch the process, and taste the result all in a single visit. Whether you are a serious chocolate lover chasing single-origin nuance or simply looking for a memorable downtown outing, Videri Chocolate Factory delivers a genuine taste of what Raleigh does best, made from scratch and served with pride.

Insider Tip
Cacao beans are typically roasted early in the week, so a weekday visit often means the warehouse is filled with a warm, brownie-like aroma. Take the free self-guided tour along the production floor before you shop, and pair a bar with a coffee from the in-house Black & White Coffee counter.
