About

Angus Barn: Raleigh’s Legendary Red-Barn Steakhouse Since 1960

Few restaurants are as woven into the fabric of the Triangle as the Angus Barn. For more than six decades, this sprawling red barn on Glenwood Avenue near Raleigh-Durham International Airport has been the region’s definitive special-occasion steakhouse—a place for anniversaries, celebrations, and once-in-a-while splurges done grandly.

A North Carolina Institution

The Angus Barn opened on June 28, 1960, founded by Thad Eure Jr. and Charles Winston on a 50-acre site outside what was then the edge of Raleigh. Today it remains proudly family-owned and independent, operated by Van Eure—daughter of co-founder Thad Eure Jr.—alongside her husband, Steve Thanhauser. That continuity shows in the restaurant’s meticulous, old-school hospitality.

Aged Steaks and a World-Class Cellar

The heart of the menu is aged, hand-cut beef: a towering bone-in tomahawk built for two, classic slow-roasted prime rib carved to temperature, and a lineup of steaks that draw diners from across the state. The wine program is equally serious—the Angus Barn has earned Wine Spectator’s Grand Award for more than 30 consecutive years, placing its cellar among the finest in the country.

More Than a Steakhouse

Beyond the main dining room, the Angus Barn offers a full experience: the beloved Wild Turkey Lounge, private wine-cellar dining rooms, a country store, and a warren of themed spaces filled with Americana. Save room for the restaurant’s famous chocolate chess pie, a signature finish to a signature meal.
