Irish Roots, Local Ownership
The Cary pub began as Connolly’s before being reconceived as Doherty’s in 2012 by Irish-born founder Michael Doherty, who had earlier helped establish Tir na nOg in downtown Raleigh. Doherty’s has since grown into a small, locally owned Triangle group with locations in Cary, Apex, and Pittsboro—an independent operation with genuine Irish hospitality at its core.
The Food: Scratch-Made Pub Fare
The kitchen prides itself on hand-cut, scratch-made cooking. Alongside Irish staples like shepherd’s pie and beer-battered fish and chips, you’ll find crowd-pleasers such as the Irish egg rolls—corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss in a Reuben-inspired twist—plus boxty, bangers and mash, and Guinness-braised brisket nachos.
More Than a Meal
Doherty’s is built to be a gathering place. A typical week includes pub trivia, music bingo, live Irish music, and a Thursday prime rib night, with a covered patio, a wall of TVs, 18-plus beer taps, and a deep pour of Irish whiskey. A semi-private whiskey room handles larger groups.

The pub is open daily from late morning into the night, with weekend hours running latest and a Sunday brunch from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations are available online and are handy for larger parties or event nights.
