About

Durham Food Hall

A Shared Table on Foster Street

Durham Food Hall opened in May 2020 in the Liberty Warehouse building on Foster Street, across from the Durham Farmers Market and Durham Central Park. Founder Adair Mueller spent years developing the project, and the space was designed almost entirely by North Carolina artists and makers. It can hold several hundred people across lounge areas, communal tables and event rooms.

The concept works like a neighborhood food court with local operators: everyone in a group orders from whichever counter they like, then meets back at a shared table. Over the years the hall has also served as a launchpad, with businesses such as Afters Dessert Bar and Little Barb’s Bakery moving on to their own storefronts.

What to Eat and Drink

Current vendors include Locals Seafood, serving North Carolina fish and Calabash-style fried seafood from a dedicated fryer; Ex-Voto Cocina Nixtamal, known for crunchwraps and burritos built on house nixtamal; Patty Boy for burgers; Corner Yaki for Asian dishes; Mango Indian Grill; and Sfizio Pizzeria. Mornings belong to Everything Bagels and Liturgy Beverage coffee, and Milklab rounds out the lineup later in the day.

The central bar, The Auctioneer, pours cocktails, wine and local beer. Online ordering lets a group place orders from several vendors at once for pickup.

Tips for Visiting

The hall opens at 7 AM daily and stays open until 9 PM Sunday through Thursday and 10 PM on Friday and Saturday, though each vendor keeps its own hours (most kitchens open around 11 AM). Weekday lunch and weekend evenings are the busiest times, so arrive a little early or order ahead.

A parking deck on Corporation Street is next door, and validation has been offered through the bar. Check the events calendar for free programming such as trivia nights, chess club meetups, movie nights and sports watch parties, and pair a Saturday morning visit with the farmers market across the street.

Who It’s For

Groups that cannot agree on dinner, families with picky eaters, remote workers looking for coffee and a table, and anyone wanting a casual sampler of Durham’s local food scene will all find something here. It is also a convenient stop before a show or game downtown.
