About

Jolie: A Parisian Bistro in the Heart of Downtown Raleigh

Tucked along North Person Street in downtown Raleigh, Jolie is a French bistro that trades in the timeless pleasures of Parisian dining. Warm, unhurried and unmistakably romantic, it brings the lively spirit of a neighborhood bistro to North Carolina’s capital, pairing classic, time-honored French dishes with modern touches from one of the region’s most celebrated kitchens.

A Taste of Paris on North Person Street

Jolie was born from a family trip to Paris, where chef Scott Crawford’s daughter fell in love with the French language and culture. That joyful spark became the inspiration for the restaurant, which opened in 2019 next door to Crawford’s flagship, Crawford and Son. The name, French for pretty, sets the tone for a space designed to feel intimate and inviting, with French blue accents, camel leather and the easy conviviality of a true bistro.

The interior seats just 28 guests, keeping the experience personal and the service attentive. It is the kind of room made for lingering over a glass of sparkling wine, a French aperitif and a leisurely dinner with the people you like most.

The Vision of Chef Scott Crawford

Jolie is the work of Scott Crawford, an award-winning chef known across the Southeast for his refined, artful cooking and his devotion to hospitality. Crawford has earned Forbes Five-Star recognition and five James Beard Foundation semifinalist nominations for Best Chef: Southeast, and his flagship Crawford and Son has been named a Best Restaurant of the Year. At Jolie, that same commitment to craft is channeled into the French tradition, celebrating both heritage recipes and Crawford’s own contemporary interpretations.

The Menu: Classic French, Thoughtfully Reimagined

The menu reads like a love letter to the bistro canon, with plenty of room for invention. Begin with escargot brightened by lemon, anchoïde and capers, or a rich onion soup finished with a crouton and fromage cantal. Steak tartare, Parisian gnocchi with chanterelles and truffle pecorino, and steamed mussels in sorrel butter round out the petits plats.

Main courses lean on French technique and Carolina ingredients alike. The hanger steak with sauce au poivre and herb frites is a bistro standard done right, while dishes such as Faroe Island salmon, braised pork collar and a vadouvan-spiced roasted cabbage show the kitchen’s range. Save room for dessert: the seasonal crème brûlée and a Videri dark chocolate crémeux with candied hazelnut are worthy finales. Menus change with the seasons, so expect the offerings to evolve throughout the year.

Rooftop Dining Above Downtown

One of Jolie’s most memorable features sits one flight up. The 32-seat rooftop garden, planted with lavender and rosemary, offers open-air dining with views over the downtown Raleigh skyline. Available year-round, it is a coveted spot for warm evenings, celebrations and golden-hour glasses of wine, and it gives the restaurant a second personality entirely its own.

Michelin Recognition and Local Acclaim

Jolie’s reputation has grown well beyond the neighborhood. The restaurant is featured in the Michelin Guide, a nod to the consistency and care behind every plate, and it remains a fixture on lists of Raleigh’s best restaurants for a special occasion. Independent and family-driven, it reflects the personal vision of a chef deeply rooted in the Triangle’s dining community.
