About
Neomonde Mediterranean
A West Raleigh Institution Since 1977
Long before Mediterranean bowls and hummus counters became a national trend, four brothers from northern Lebanon were baking pita by hand on Beryl Road. Neomonde opened in 1977 as a small family bakery, and nearly five decades later it remains one of West Raleigh’s most beloved independent spots. What began as a wholesale bread operation has grown into a full-service deli, market, and gathering place just minutes from NC State and Meredith College, and the Beryl Road shop is the original flagship where it all started.
The Saleh family built the business on a simple rule: anything they sell has to be good enough to serve their own family. That standard still shapes everything here, from the bread pulled fresh from the ovens each morning to the trays of house-made dips and salads lined up behind the deli glass.
It Starts with the Bakery
Neomonde has always been a bakery first, and it shows. The kitchen turns out fresh pita, mana’eesh flatbreads, and an ever-changing case of Middle Eastern pastries every day. That bread is the foundation of nearly everything on the menu, and many locals stop in simply to grab a few warm bags to take home. The baking operation is serious enough that Neomonde supplies bread and Mediterranean products to grocers and restaurants across the Triangle, but here you get it at its freshest, straight from the source.
What to Order
Order at the counter, deli-style, and build a meal from a long lineup of Lebanese and Mediterranean staples. The falafel is a perennial favorite, crisp chickpea fritters fried to order and tucked into fresh pita with tahini, tomatoes, and pickles. The chicken and beef shawarma, hummus, baba ghanoush, tabbouleh, and stuffed grape leaves are all made in-house, and the combination plates are an easy way to sample several at once.
Vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-free diners are unusually well served here, with a large share of the menu built around vegetables, legumes, and grains. Save room for dessert, because the baklava and other honey-soaked pastries are a fitting end, and the pastry case near the register makes it hard to leave empty-handed.
A Market and a Meeting Place
Neomonde is more than a restaurant. Tucked alongside the dining area is a small specialty market stocked with olive oils, spices, olives, cheeses, and imported pantry goods that can be tough to find elsewhere in Raleigh. It is the kind of place where you come for lunch and leave with dinner ingredients too. The dining room is casual and family-friendly, with counter service, indoor seating, and a patio for warmer days, and it draws a steady, diverse crowd of students, families, downtown workers, and longtime regulars.
Catering and Community
Over the decades Neomonde has become a go-to caterer for Triangle weddings, office lunches, and celebrations, bringing its mezze platters and grilled favorites to events across the region. That community role is part of what has kept the business rooted here for so long. The family has often described themselves as ambassadors of Lebanese food and culture, and the welcome at Beryl Road reflects it.
